He was a typical eldest child of five whose parents wanted him to be a lawyer, and instead he decided to be a lawyer. Why Did Degas Like Dancing So Much?Įdgar Degas was born in Paris France in 1883.

It was mesmerizing, and has left with a lasting love for art, and Degas has held a special place in my heart since. When I was a little girl my mom took me to a special exhibit at the Detroit Institute of Arts called Degas at the Dance. Not only do I love Misty Copeland, but I LOVE Degas. She has gained public popularity and media coverage by being the first African-American dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, telling her story in interviews, writing a book, and appearing in a body image campaign for Under Armour. Misty Copeland is an American dancer for the American Ballet Theatre. The project recreates Edgar Degas’ paintings of the ballet. This project was photographed by Ken Browar and Deborah Ory and features ballerina Misty Copeland. I’ve already written a post on the subject: Actors/Actresses “Acting” As Art but I saw the project called “The Art of Dance” printed in the March 2016 issue of Harper’s Bazzar and it made me want to revisit the subject. One because it’s awesome, and two because people posing as paintings is a reoccurring trend throughout history. So Why Are We Reliving The Glory of Gilmore Girls? She was a flincher! In the episode at the very time Lorelai is on the stage Sookie’s special baby pager goes off, and standing perfectly still the entire time, relinquishing her title as flincher, and her and Rory run off to go see Sookie as she goes into labor. Lorelai is reluctant participate since a number of years ago, on the same stage, in that very costume she flinched for all the world to see. The Stars Hollow crew all participates, Rory as Antheas in Portrait of a Young Girl Named Anthea by Girolamo Parmigianino, Kirk as Jesus in DaVinci’s Last Supper, and Lorelai as the woman in the red hat in Dance at Bougival by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. The festival involves making life size recreations of famous art, dressing people as those characters, and having them stand completely still on stage to portray them As you should recall, in this episode Taylor tells the town that they are to host The Festival of the Living Art, which they haven’t been able to host in a number of years, but luckily the town that was suppose to hold it fell through, This has always been one of my favorite episodes because the idea of such festival seemed amazingly awesome. If you HAVE seen the show, you should probably remember the episode entitled “The Festival of the Living Art”. If you have, you should thoroughly enjoy the number of Gilmore-ism (yes, that’s a word, and if it wasn’t it would make it even more Gilmore-esque).
